Introduction
The College of Integrative Medical Sciences (CIMS) is a multi-campus institution with its
main administrative office located in Ejisu near Kumasi. The academic facilities of the
college are also located in Kumasi and Ejisu. The founding mission of the college is to offer
educational programs that integrate orthodox medical sciences with traditional healing
practices, with emphasis on the study of African Herbal Medicine. We are committed to
nurturing a new generation of high quality integrative medicine practitioners and
pharmacists, and to foster teaching and research of African herbal medicine. To this end the
college is poised to offer academic and clinical education of doctors, pharmacists, herbalists,
and natural medicine practitioners in a rigorous academic environment. Our students will
be prepared to serve the public by providing quality education, research and integrative
medical care in the science and art of health promotion, disease management and prevention
based upon these principles.

Programmes Offered
The College of Integrative Medical Sciences will initially offer professional certificate
programs in integrative orthodox medical sciences as well as herbal sciences and pharmacy.
These programmes are designed to meet the educational needs of present and future herbal
medicine practitioners and herbal medicines manufacturers in order to facilitate their
integration into the mainstream healthcare delivery system. Professional certificate
programs in emergency medical technology and clinical laboratory sciences will also be
offered. In the course of time these programmes will be expanded and intensified to attain
professional degree and diploma status. The current programs are:
Certificate in Herbal Medicine (Integrative)
Certificate in Herbal Pharmacy
Certificate in Emergency Medical Technology – Paramedics Training
Certificate in Clinical Laboratory Science

After graduation, students will be: -
Primary Healthcare givers in hospitals and clinics
Experts in the manufacture of herbal medicines from African herbs using modern
scientific methods to produce high quality herbal medicines.
First responders to emergency situations at hospital and clinics etc
Experts in research, development, production and marketing of new products from
African materia medica
Medical and herbal sales/marketing professionals
Medical emergency experts in the fire service, police, hospitals, trauma centers etc.
Clinical laboratory scientists in hospitals, reference laboratories, clinics, and research
and development departments of pharmaceutical companies.
Entry Requirements
A. SSSCE Applicants: Passes in three relevant core subjects are required in addition
to passes in three elective science subjects
B. GCE “A” Level Applicants: Passes in key science subjects in addition to passes in
at the O Level
C. Mature Students: Herbalists with adequate educational background will be admitted to the
programs through interviews.
